Lungs 03:43
lungs do breathe, expand and release, exhume energy fought through all the walls of thoracic cavities it’s in my blood so let it run it’s in my blood so let it run after what I want, what I want, after what I want hearts do bleed, contract and release, steal the greed thought it necessary to break the bones again

Gull Lake 04:46
misfired synapse, I felt the lack the surface white, the water black an impulse drifts about the brain as fractals split under my weight beneath me, ice breaks cell bodies, give way beneath me, ice breaks cell bodies, give way across potentials, fissures succumb first comes the shock, then the numb

Give It 02:40
why don’t you just give it a chance filed down to the wire boiled to my highest point I found myself in a room full of mirrors I don’t even know if I’m here count me as a number to find meaning you only believe what you see count me as a number to find meaning you only believe what you see why don’t you just give it a chance separate from my space atoms buzzing ‘cause I’m mad hypotheses don’t mean anything am I in your basic theory why don’t you just give it a…

Snow White 05:57
apple of my eye I knew one bite and I would die you are my Snow White I’ll be your man I’ll be your guy poison honey pie I knew one bite and I would die you are my Snow White I’ll be your man I’ll be your guy I see you at the party from across the room stuck in the haze of your cigarette the room breathes me in and it all disappears I wake up alone in my head the room holds me in and I don’t make a sound visions of you on my skin I dream you in and it all disappears I wake up alone in my bed mirror on the wall keeps my eyes on you watching you put on your makeup I close my eyes just to dream about fortunes that aren’t even fair
6.
Grafting 03:35
ha ha ha I told you so are you haunted? counting up the lines of the rings, counting religiously pushing feeling through the phloem and the stoma they open and please keep this, tying up the ends of the seams and please keep this, grafting, grafting memories from the tree it grows, growing in the shape you are in and the buds they open and a heart beating from antler branches bleeding xylem truths and please keep this, tying up the ends of the seams and please keep this, grafting, grafting memories no I don’t believe this holding up the mismatching leaves no I don’t believe this it’s dying, dying, dying on me

Kaleidoscope 03:26
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 I got advantages they’re built right in I love your vantage point shining and sharpened and closing in this is the closest I’ve ever been collide, collide art microscopic from butterfly wings makes vision myopic a marvelous thing I’m closing in close

Satisfied 05:06
we climbed the flights of stairs to a penthouse loft music and dancing promised past two o’clock it’s far too early to leave but we don’t want to stay to see the death of a night so alive in our minds so we say goodnight and we leave satisfied, satisfied the verve was dwindling while we made our descent yeah it was a good thing but it came and went that cigarette is almost burned out maybe you should throw it down, down, that cigarette is almost burned out maybe you should throw it down, down, down, down we’re at the top but we’re coming down, maybe it’s time to go home
9.
Margaret 03:21
Margaret? did I say the wrong name when you called? holding roses at the door a mirror looking into a mirror Margaret like things of man holding out a hand to greet you holding negatives in the palms of both of my hands Margaret? will it come to such sights colder? I am a native daughter. I will never need to write home Margaret, with your fresh thoughts can you? an oasis in the grove I am paralyzed by a past I have never been told time moves only forward the body remembers knowing and unknowing the body remembers (the body the body) time moves only forward the body forgets Margaret are you grieving? over golden grove unleaving leaves like things of man you, with your fresh thoughts care for can you? it is the blight that man was born for it is Margaret that you mourn for

Disappear 06:10
when dawn was just breaking my lover and I woke up too tall woke up too wide the rafters gave way the birds they moved aside our toes touched horizons our heads scraped the sunrise our toes touched horizons and don’t it feel like love to swim right past the sun to kiss oblivion and still and still and still I wonder, oh no how are we supposed to get it back? how are we supposed to get it back? funny how it all just seemed to disappear and I was alright with that I still hold them tight in gravity’s name I swallowed the dark beat back negative space I carved into the planets proof of my claim but even stars die even galaxies change

about

Los Angeles post rock outfit Gypsum emerge with their eponymous debut seven years in the making. Gypsum is a synergistic exercise in collectivist arrangement, assembled through the knotty intersections between guitars, imploring harmonies and exploratory rhythms. From the icy swirling post punk of “Gull Lake” and the taut building tension of “Snow White” to the wall-of-sound feedback loops underpinning “Grafting” and the reverb drenched, dark indie pop of “Kaleidoscope”, Gypsum is a deeply rewarding listen dense with mystery, complexity, darkness, majesty and beauty.
